TwilioAutomation & Integration
Programmable SMS, voice, and two-way text conversations for automated patient and client communication.
I use Twilio APIs for SMS, voice, verification, and two-way communication workflows such as reminders, lead follow-up, document requests, and callbacks, subject to channel, consent, sender-registration, and account requirements.

How I use Twilio
I use Twilio Messaging for outbound SMS and two-way conversation handling, Twilio Verify for identity verification flows, and Twilio Voice for automated callback systems. Healthcare workflows require a Twilio Security or Enterprise Edition, a signed BAA, a designated HIPAA Account, eligible products, and an architecture that follows Twilio's HIPAA guidance. Twilio may process or retain message, call, recording, and media data according to the products and configuration used, so retention and access settings have to be designed explicitly.

What the integration supports
Facts checked
Authentication and access
Twilio REST APIs use HTTP Basic authentication. Production integrations should use an API key SID as the username and its secret as the password; Account SID and Auth Token are supported for local testing.
Useful data and actions
- Message SID, sender, recipient, status, error codes, and delivery timestamps
- Inbound message bodies and approved media references
- Call SID, direction, duration, status, recordings, and configured transcription output
- Verify service and verification-attempt status without storing one-time codes in the application
Constraints to confirm
- SMS, MMS, WhatsApp, RCS, and voice have different sender registration, consent, country, carrier, content, and throughput rules.
- US and Canada long-code SMS starts at one message segment per second by default; voice starts at one outbound call per second, with other sender and product limits applying.
- HIPAA use requires a Security or Enterprise Edition, signed BAA, designated HIPAA Account, eligible services, and compliant customer architecture; a BAA alone is insufficient.
