Athenahealth's REST API gives direct access to scheduling, billing, and clinical data. I've built automations that pull eligibility in real-time on appointment creation, trigger SMS reminders via their appointment event webhooks, sync patient intake data from external forms directly into charts, and automate claim submission status checks. Athenahealth is a good fit for practices that want deep integration rather than just surface-level automation. The API is well-documented, rate limits are reasonable, and the data model is predictable.
