SmokeballAutomation & Integration
Automate document-heavy legal workflows around Smokeball matters, forms, and billing.
Smokeball exposes scoped matter, contact, document, calendar, task, time, expense, invoice, and payment resources. I connect approved records to repeatable legal workflows and external tools.

How I use Smokeball
A Smokeball integration can use approved API scopes and supported events to coordinate intake, document requests, task creation, signatures, billing follow-up, and internal notifications. I choose the OAuth grant for the deployment, use the firm's regional endpoints, and verify every required production scope before promising a workflow.

What the integration supports
Facts checked
Authentication and access
Create an app in the Smokeball Developer Console and use the supported OAuth 2.0 grant for the deployment: authorization code for user-authorized access, or client credentials where a private server-to-server app is eligible. API requests also include Smokeball's issued API key.
Useful data and actions
- Contacts, matters, matter types, staff, and documents available to the app's approved scopes
- Calendar, task, time, expense, invoice, and payment resources exposed by the selected endpoints
- Event records and optional webhook subscriptions for supported changes
Constraints to confirm
- Production scopes require approval, public apps are partner-only, and server-to-server grants are limited to eligible private-app scenarios.
- The integration must use the API and authentication base URLs for the firm's region and keep staging data separate from production.
- Read and write scopes differ, and child-resource operations can require more than one scope; document and financial actions need firm-level controls.
